EASTER DUTIES

HIs Eminence explains below that the obligation to go to Confession and receive Holy Communion around Easter this year has been set aside. Instead we are urged to make an ACT OF PERFECT CONTRITION.

What is PERFECT CONTRITION ?

Perfect contrition is sorrow and detestation of sin arising out of the love of God. One way of exciting this contrition in our hearts is by considering the passion of Jesus Christ and making acts of love for Him. We can also think of the infinite love which God has for us, and express sorrow in our heart in the presence of this great love which we have offended

Act of Contrition:

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee,
and I detest all my sins because of thy just punishments,
but most of all because they offend Thee, my God,
who art all good
and deserving of all my love.
I firmly resolve
with the help of Thy grace to sin no more
and to avoid the near occasion of sin.
Amen.

If you make that prayer and mean the words, then you have made an act of perfect contrition......with an intention to go to confession at the earliest opportunity.

CAN YOU HELP ? DO YOU NEED HELP ?

So, we have created a community called CoronaBuddy.co.uk which connects people who are in need of help, to the amazing people in our communities who are willing to help. This can be as simple as a friendly phone call, taking a letter to the post office, delivering some food or picking up a prescription. It doesn’t need to be a huge task, but we all need a little bit of help through these tough times so we wanted to create a platform which connects amazing people willing to help, to those that need a bit of help.

If you are, please join the CoronaBuddy.co.uk community here:

We're a group of hundreds of local volunteers - working with local councillors and faith groups to help provide a network of help and assistance to local residents in need.

HOW TO KEEP SUNDAY - when we cannot go to Holy Mass

The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for the foreseeable future will be said privately:

- on Sunday the intention will be for the people and the well-being of this parish.
- during the week the intention will be as previously arranged and published on the Newsletter or for the same intention as Sunday.

We are asked to unite ourselves to this Holy 'unbloody' Sacrifice by offering to Almighty God a sacrifice of our own time and abilities. How can we do this ?

- on Sunday at the usual times of Holy Mass there will be Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament.
for a variety of reasons you may not be able to physically get to Church so...

- Holy Mass is available 'live streamed' in many places

www.livemass.net/
https://www.ewtn.com/tv

- prayerfully read the passages of Sacred Scripture allocated to each Sunday (or day)
https://www.ewtn.com/catholicism/daily-readings

- say the Holy Rosary
https://www.ewtn.com/catholicism/devotions/rosary-12703

- meditate on the Stations of the Cross
https://www.ewtn.com/catholicism/devotions/stations-of-the-cross-12706

- make an Act of Spiritual Communion and an examination of conscience
My Jesus,
I believe that You
are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things,
and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment
receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.
Amen.

- make sure those who live close to us are coping. This is a time to be open to our neighbours and their needs.
